The company was founded in 1859 by James Greaves and George Cotton. It was incorporated in 1922 as a private limited company. Greaves Cotton was purchased by Lala Karam Chand Thapar of the Thapar Group in 1947. It was converted into a public limited company in 1950.

Greaves Cotton Limited is a diversified engineering company and a leading manufacturer of Cleantech Powertrain Solutions(CNG, Petrol and Diesel Engines), Generator sets, Farm equipment, E-Mobility, Aftermarket spares and services. GreavesCotton is a multi-product and multi-location company with a rich legacy and brand trust of over 162 years and hasestablished itself as a key player impacting a billion lives every day. The company today manufactures world-class productsand solutions under various business units and is backed by comprehensive support from 500+ Greaves Retail Centers &6300+ smaller spare parts retail outlets across the country. In the mobility segment, the company manufactures 4 lakh plusengines annually, almost 1 engine per minute and provides low TCO mobility solutions to the majority of the population inIndia, moving more than 1 crore passengers and 5 lakh tonnes of cargo every day. Quality Assurance

Greaves Power manufactures diesel generating sets in a wide range from 2.5KVA to 500KVA. The products are manufactured at its Chakan plant, an ISO 9001-2015 & ISO 14001:2015 certified facility and are compliant with the emission norm CPCB-II and are eco-friendly.
